The island boasts a string of breathtaking sandy beaches, each with its own unique charm and character
Just off the west coast of the Greek mainland, in the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea, the island of Lefkada is an absolute haven for beach lovers and water sports enthusiasts. The island boasts a string of breathtaking sandy beaches, each with its own unique charm and character. From the long, sweeping stretches of white sand at Agios Ioannis and Kathisma, to the more secluded coves of Porto Katsiki and Egremni, Lefkada has something for everyone.
But the island’s beauty is not limited to its beaches – the clear cobalt blue waters surrounding Lefkada are also a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. From windsurfing and kiteboarding at Vassiliki and Agios Ioannis, to snorkeling and diving at the island’s many hidden coves and inlets, there’s no shortage of activities to keep you busy. Whether you’re looking to relax on the beach, or try your hand at a new water sport, Lefkada has it all.
Discover the breathtaking beaches of the island with ease by exploring in your Avis rental car. With the beaches located in various locations, you won’t miss out on any of the island’s stunning spots.
Ammoglossa. Close to the town, with white sand and blue waters. Three characteristics make it stand out: its unusual shape, the imposing castle of Agia Mavra that stands in front of it, and the view of the lagoon in the distance.
Enkremni. A large beach considered one of the best in the Mediterranean. The scenery is spectacular and reminiscent of the Caribbean, with crystal clear waters. 350 steps separate you from this long beach. If the steps are too much, you can take a boat from Vasiliki.
Porto Katsiki. The star of the island with its green-blue waters, it has won the award of best beach in Greece and is one of the most popular in the Mediterranean, which is why it’s flooded with people. Access via steps starting from the car park where there are canteens. Otherwise, come by boat from Vasiliki.
Kathisma. Another one of the famous beaches of Lefkada, with white sand, turquoise seas and impressive cliffs. It is well maintained with patadols, sunbeds, beach bars, and restaurants. There are also water sports.
Vasiliki. At the southern end of the island, in front of the busy village. It has sand and the waters are shallow, which is why families prefer it. Vasiliki is a paradise for windsurfers. It is ranked among the ten best beaches in the world and the three best in Europe for the sport. The Water Sports Festival and the International Sailing Regatta are held here.
Agios Nikitas. The small beach of the settlement is crowded, but the beautiful water is crystal clear and cafes and tavernas are a short distance away.
Pefkoulia. Next to Agios Nikitas. An impressively long beach with coarse sand, clear waters and dense pine trees reaching the water. A part of it is organized.
Milos. Deep waters, coarse sand, and an imposing landscape. The long (and sometimes lonely) beach is overrun with people arriving by boat from the neighbouring Agios Nikitas. Nikiana. Small, sandy, family-friendly beach, surrounded by restaurants and
accommodation.
Nidri. The busy beach stretches from Nydri to Perigiali. Above it is a number of hotels and other facilities.
Desimi. A small beach in a cove on the outer side of the Vlychos peninsula. Ideal for canoeing, which means you can explore the small sandy beaches and caves along the
coast.
Kalamitsi. Three sandy beaches near the village of the same name. With turquoise waters, white pebbles and sand.
